Latvia Residency by Investment 2026 — EU Residency Guide

📅 June 17, 2026⏱ 7 min read✍️ CitizenshipByInvestmentPro

Latvia offers one of the most affordable entry points to European Union residency through its investment immigration program. As a member of the EU and the Schengen Area, Latvia provides investors with freedom of movement across Europe and a pathway to full EU citizenship. Here is the complete 2026 guide.

For full program details including current investment thresholds, processing timelines, and requirements, see our Latvia program page.

Investment Options

Latvia's residency by investment program offers real estate investment as the primary qualifying route. The minimum real estate investment is EUR 250,000 in Riga or major cities, and EUR 250,000 in other regions. Alternatively, investors can make a subordinated capital investment of EUR 50,000 in a Latvian company with a minimum five employees and annual taxes of EUR 40,000, plus a EUR 10,000 state fee.

Processing and Residency Terms

Latvia processes residency applications within one to four months. Approved investors receive an initial five-year temporary residency permit that can be renewed. The permit covers the main applicant, spouse, and dependent children. Latvia does not require significant physical presence to maintain residency, making it attractive for investors who want EU access without committing to full relocation.

Pathway to Latvian Citizenship

Latvian citizenship through naturalization is available after five years of permanent residency. Requirements include demonstrated Latvian language proficiency, knowledge of the constitution and national anthem, and renunciation of other citizenship in most cases as Latvia generally does not permit dual citizenship. The Latvian passport provides visa-free access to 186 countries.

Why Choose Latvia?

Latvia offers one of the most cost-effective routes to EU residency in Europe. The EUR 250,000 real estate threshold is significantly lower than Portugal, Spain, or Greece for comparable EU access. Latvia's strategic location in Northern Europe, growing economy, and high-quality digital infrastructure make it particularly attractive for technology entrepreneurs and remote workers seeking European base.
